An FAA medical certificate confirms that a pilot meets the medical standards required for certain privileges. Compare the classes and find an Aviation Medical Examiner.
An Aviation Medical Examiner reviews your history and performs the examination. Many students begin with a third-class medical, while pilots pursuing professional flying may choose a higher class earlier.
Airline transport pilots
Required when exercising airline transport pilot privileges. You may apply for a first-class medical before reaching the airline stage if you want to confirm that you meet the higher medical standard.
COMMERCIAL PILOTS
Required when exercising commercial pilot privileges, such as flying for compensation or hire. It is the usual medical class for pilots working toward or using a commercial pilot certificate.
STUDENT AND PRIVATE PILOTS
The standard starting point for most student and private pilots. A student pilot must hold at least a third-class medical when one is required for solo flight. A higher class also satisfies this requirement.

Bring your identification and MedXPress confirmation number. Take your corrective lenses if you use them, along with any medical records requested by the AME.
